Welcome to my blog!
My name is Shweta, and I started freelance content writing in 2018 after completing my post-graduation. While many see it as a passive income source, the reality is that it helped me survive one of the toughest times—during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Content writing isn’t difficult to get into. In fact, students from Class 8, 10, 12, or even those pursuing graduation can start, provided they have confidence, basic English skills, the ability to think creatively, and the stamina to work long hours.
Who can start freelance content writing?
Anyone! Yes, anyone can start, because it can be done in any language, and there’s no degree or certification required to begin.
In my 7-year career, not a single client has ever asked for a degree or certificate. So, whether you come from a technical or non-technical background, you can apply for freelance writing jobs.
But here’s the catch!
Clients will ask for a sample—or even better, a portfolio.
What is a sample or portfolio?
As the name suggests, clients want to see a piece of your writing in a specific niche.
For example, if a client is from the real estate sector, they may ask for a real estate-related sample, or request you to write a fresh piece of 300, 500, or more words.
Important Note: Some clients pay for fresh samples, but others might ask for free ones.
Honestly, when I was starting out, I used to offer free samples just to close deals—because I was eager to get work and had no prior experience.
Sometimes, this strategy worked! A few clients even paid me for the sample after selecting me.
Do you need a degree or certificate for freelance writing?
It’s great if you have a degree, certificate, or diploma in any field—it adds value.
But it’s not required for freelance content writing. If you genuinely love writing and can write on a variety of topics, you can start your journey today.
This is a great field if you want to escape the 9-to-5 grind. You can work with multiple clients, right from the comfort of your home.
